Canada's Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown With Los Angeles Dodgers
The outfielder contributed to the Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.
Canada's MLB team advanced to their first Fall Classic after the 1993 season by beating the Seattle Mariners in the final Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Behind three runs to one, Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning, guiding the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, who are the current crown, in the anticipated Fall Classic.
"It's incredible for everyone here, our city, Canada," Springer stated, a star of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
The veteran has now slugged 23 total October home runs, making him third on the list behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not another person on planet Earth that I'd choose in that situation besides George Springer with his October magic," remarked manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "there's no question that it's painful" after his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but praised their performance in the campaign.
"It's a special team. It's a shame that we finished on the unsuccessful side of the series," he remarked.
Toronto's team won the championship on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in the opener on Friday.
