Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Defeat

Arne Slot conceded that it's expected for concerns to be asked about his position after another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the team's worst run after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from management,” Slot remarked.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”

He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with The Board

Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”

Persistent Issues and Player Reaction

Slot highlighted recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.

“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”

He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell such as this with results this poor.”

He stated, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And until it is gone, we’re always going to compete.”

“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, prove once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”

“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
