Whenever a major awards ceremony draws close, there’s always a demand to include additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and delight the hearts of followers who have specialized interests.
A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist for pushing forward because like all dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request remains most pressing above others. Here's the proposal: We need an award type for logic-based games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Classifying creative works is not a science; it remains highly personal, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. Yet it remains an essential concession within the realm of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute a single creative category.
For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these classifications effectively encompass many game types, and you can find room for most games within them.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to put them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles of one title, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Which classification works between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.
The Representation Problem
There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly that have no home in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.
- An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated in any category during that awards season
- Another imaginative release missed out during that ceremony
- A beloved organization game was overlooked recently
- Just some puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications
Value of Brain-Teasers
These are often small games, however the design behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles count as the most-played games worldwide continuing this trend for an extended period.
The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. You could fill a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.
And to reiterate, these are games that otherwise have no home in important events. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary game development, producing among essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
