This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miamiâs iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
âThe swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,â Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.
âIf we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,â she went on. âLet this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.â
The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming â6-7â â originating from a hip-hop line â often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made âsix-sevenâ its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge âaway from grills and cookwareâ, according to the eventâs official press release.
âThis swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,â said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
âIt represents the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.â
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
