Thrice-crowned Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffers a 'gut-wrenching' leg setback.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic sustained a "devastating" knee injury while the Denver Nuggets were defeated 147-123 to the Heat.
The Serbian center sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half following an unintentional coming together with team-mate Jones.
The other player landed on the foot of Jokic, who promptly collapsed to the ground holding his knee.
The veteran player, that leads the league season in rebounds and dimes, posted 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to suffering the problem.
He will have an MRI on Tuesday to determine the severity of the injury.
"Right away, Jokic understood something was wrong," said Nuggets head coach David Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Whoever that is injured, it's difficult, especially somebody as talented as him. We will know more on Tuesday."
"The team will adjust together. Of course, right now, I'm focused about him as a person and the letdown of facing an event like that."
