Trump Invites Loved Ones of Shot National Guard Members to White House

President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the executive mansion.

He added that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

Background on the Devastating Shooting

Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a attack on last Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.

Presidential Offer

The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the families of both members of the state Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump addressed journalists. “And similarly with him, recover or not.”

Community Reaction

Mourners assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to honor Sarah.

Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.

Honoring Sarah Beckstrom

“Sarah was the individual that educators desired. She behaved with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that lifted those around her,” the principal, the head of Beckstrom’s alma mater, told the press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always eager to assist people.”

Service plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.

Legal Steps and Government Adjustments

Authorities have charged a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of homicide and two counts of attempted murder while armed.

The incident prompted the Trump administration to suspend asylum processing and cease providing visas to holders of travel documents.

Status of Andrew Wolfe

Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the AP.

He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey mentioned on television.

The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed a news show that she also intended to speak to his relatives.

Legacy of the Fallen Soldier

Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, per the military.

“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had bravery,” Morrisey informed the gathering at the vigil. “Though her life was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
